Grandmaster Kim Bok Man, our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, a founding pioneer of TKD and true legend of the art.
GM Kim Bok Man is very poorly. The earlier post was written with inaccurate information, however his health is not good. Our prayers are with you Sir.

Grandmaster Bok Man Kim, was one of the pioneers of Taekwon-Do in the ROK (Republic of Korea) Army. As a Master Sergeant, Bok Man Kim helped General Choi Hong Hi develop many of the martial techniques of Taekwon-Do and 15 of the 24 Ch’ang Hon patterns, the first Korean patterns developed for Taekwon-Do, in Malaysia from 1963-1964. The Ch’ang Hon patterns remain the official patterns of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) more than 50 years later. Master Sergeant Bok Man Kim also served as an instructor of Taekwon-Do under General Choi’s command. During his military service, Bok Man Kim helped General Choi to update the ROK Army Field Manual and to write the book Taekwon-do: The Art of Self-Defence, the first book about Taekwondo in English, although Bok Man Kim asked General Choi to remove his name from the book due to personal differences.

April 11th 1955 in a Ginyeo bar a gathering of Korean ministers and Army officers led by General Choi Hong Hi, researched and invented the name for a new Korean martial art. This landmark day will always be remembered as the start of modern day TaeKwon-do.

One mans vision and a legacy left for us all.

March 22nd 1966, General Choi Hong Hi formed the International Taekwon-do Federation (I.T.F) in Seoul, Korea. While spreading the name of TaeKwon-do, the name ITF allowed all associations an identity to a world body.
At the time there were associations in Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, West Germany, America, Turkey, Italy, Egypt and Korea.
During this time Taekwon-Do had been taken up by several foreign armies, and was taught at West Point in America. During the Vietnam War, the Taekwon-Do training of Korean and other foreign soldiers was said to have had a demoralising effect on the Viet Cong.
Due to the military being posted around the globe, this helped spread the name TaeKwon-do.

We celebrate the 55th anniversary of the forming of the ITF, and wish all members the very best.

Stay safe and keep spreading the word.
